The São Paulo Metropolitan Region's school database provides files containing the georeferenced digital cartography of public and private schools, being the original source the 2013 School Census (INEP/MEC). The original data was obtained in tabular databases, which were then standardized and georeferenced by the CEM team. The georeferencing consists of assigning geographic coordinates to each tabular database record through operations performed in a Geographic Information System (GIS). This process uses CEM’s database for georeferenced thoroughfares, which in a GIS environment associates addresses to a geographic coordinates system, commonly expressed in latitude and longitude.

This database was used in the digital app on Schools, specially created for the general public and where one may obtain information on the performance and the operating conditions of public schools in São Paulo’s Metropolitan Region. The dataset on schools can be accessed at CEM's Database section after filling a simple registration form (for those who have yet done so). Access is free of charge and immediate.
