New set of georeferenced data - CEM incorporates database on the Heath facilities

CEM/Cepid incorporates yet another database to its online collection

The data set on "Health Facilities in São Paulo’s Metropolitan Region" integrates standardized and georeferenced data produced by the CEM Technology Transfer Team.

Georeferencing consists of assigning geographic coordinates to each record of a tabular database through operations in a Geographic Information System environment. This process uses the georeferenced thoroughfare CEM database, which associates a GIS address to a geographic coordinate system, usually expressed in latitude and longitude.

The dataset includes geocoded records and a database with information on health facilities such as: name, address, description, activity, type of services provided, working hours, among others. All 39 municipalities in São Paulo’s Metropolitan Region were included in this database.

The original CNES file contained 23,306 registered establishments, however 20 of them were not found in any of the geocoding stages. The database available here – SAU2016_CEM_RMSP – contains 23,286 health facilities.

We hope that by making this unprecedented file available it may assist researchers from different fields of knowledge involved with urban planning, social development, and public policy evaluation. All data produced in the Metropolitan Studies Center, one of the Cepids of the São Paulo Research Foundation, are available on the website (Database Area) in a format compatible with open source software for public access, such as TerraView Social Policy.

The georeferenced dataset provides information compiled from the CNES (National Register of Health Facilities) of the Ministry of Health. The available database has 23,286 georeferenced health facilities in São Paulo’s Metropolitan Region, such as laboratories, clinics, hospitals, healthcare professionals, among others (both public and private).

The access is on the Database area of this website here.
