News Book release on people on the street

"Novas faces da vida nas ruas" is one of the Finalists of the Jabuti Award 2017

Book edited by CEM researchers "New faces of life on the streets" presents the latest contributions on the subject as well as interviews with international scholars

"New faces of life on the streets" is a book organized by Taniele Rui (Unicamp and Cebrap), Mariana Martinez (UFSCar and CEM) and Gabriel Feltran (UFSCar and CEM) released by the Federal University of São Carlos publisher, EdUFSCar. The collection features 13 chapters and 5 interviews with the social scientists Marie-Ghislaine Stoffels and Philippe Bourgois as well as comments.

The collection features articles addressing street life in the past decade (2006-2016) from different angles: stories from its inhabitants, the ascension and political construction of the Street Population National Movement, and the intersections between street and crack in light of several care strategies, management, and institutional treatment. All articles are the result of original studies based on ethnographic research with people living on the streets and public policy operators. The goal is to examine street policies empirically as being crucial for issues such as the management of bodies and the control of bare lives in the cities.
