On September 22th, Gabriel Feltran presented a seminar on politics and violence in the outskirts of the city of S.Paulo

The professor of UFSCAR and researcher at CEM, Gabriel Feltran, held on September 22nd the seminar "The state on the border: political and social 'life of crime' on the outskirts of Sao Paulo."

The presentation was focused on his research on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, especially the one which resulted in his doctoral thesis (2008) and that generated the book "Fronteiras de Tensão", soon to be released.

In his lecture, the researcher went through three times in his approach, noting that one cannot think of crime as the world relative to the excluded from the State. He pointed out that the suburbs should be considered an arena of symbolic production, and instances of illegal market power, ie, a whole set of social relations.

Addressed in detail the changes happened on the outskirts in the city of Sao Paulo since the 1960s. He also carried out a detailed analysis of the history of the PCC organization, which can be considered a legitimate actor for more general statement.

The seminar took place in FFLCH in the Social Sciences building, at the University of São Paulo, and was organized by the Center for Metropolitan Studies and the Department of Political Science, University of São Paulo.
