30/04/2014 17:30

On April 30th (from  5.30 pm), CEM promotes in Cidade Universitária, a seminar on Affirmative Actions to be delivered by Marcia Lima Prof.Dr. from Department of Sociology/USP and researcher of CEBRAP, intitled: Affirmative Action and private education system: The case of the University for All Program (Prouni).

The implementation process of Brazilian affirmative action provoked an intense public debate, in particular on account of the reservation of vacancies in the public universities.Parallel to this, we observe that the higher education system has always been strongly influenced by the presence of private institutions with no university status and low quality. Thus, the vacancies in the public university system are responsible for a minor part of higher education system.

Starting from the discussion of the heterogeneity of the higher education system and the different patterns of inclusion in effect, the goal of this presentation is to discuss the process of building the University for All Program (PROUNI) - federal government program for access to the university that is national in scope - seeking to respond that way to include this program provides.

The paper in which the researcher discusses some aspects of her study can be accessed here.

POST-EVENT

CEM host this seminar on Affirmative Actions, delivered by Dr. Marcia Lima, from the Department of Sociology/USP and researcher at CEBRAP, titled,” Affirmative Action and private education system: The case of the University for All Program (Prouni).”

The implementation process of Brazilian affirmative action provoked an intense public debate, mostly due to the reservation of vacancies in the public universities. Similar to this issue, we observe that the higher education system has always been strongly influenced by the presence of private institutions with no university status and low quality. Thus, the vacancies in the public university system are responsible for a minor part of higher education system.

Starting from the discussion of the heterogeneity of the higher education system and the different patterns of inclusion in effect, the goal of this presentation is to discuss the process of building the University for All Program (PROUNI), a federal government program for access to the university that is national in scope.
