It seeks to understand how Brazil confronted the COVID-19 pandemic based on an analysis of the situation of frontline workers during this period. The book is based on research conducted in 2020 with public service professionals in the health, social assistance, and security sectors. These categories are examined in the public policy and administration literature within the theoretical framework of street-level bureaucracy.
The chapters highlight how the crisis affected health and social assistance policies, as well as the prison system, and explore the experiences of professionals who had to adapt in order to provide in-person emergency services to people in situations of social vulnerability.
The chapters were written by authors from diverse fields, including public administration, public health, health sciences, political science, psychology, anthropology, and history.
