Round table on Municipal Governance: management, financing and participation

15/12/2015 19:00

Center for Metropolitan Studies (CEM/Cepid) carries out in December the roundtable: Municipal Governance: management, financing and participation

The event will be mediated by CEM researcher and livre-docente professor of the Political Science Department at USP, Eduardo Marques, and will feature three guests lecturers Ednaldo Ribeiro (State University of Maringa), José Roberto Afonso (Brasiliense Institute of Public Law and IBRE / FGV) and Ursula Peres (EACH / USP). The table will take place in FFLCH/USP, on Tuesday, December 15th from 5pm, being open to all interested parties without prior registration.

This roundtable will bring together different experts on municipal management, which will address this issue from different dimensions and analytical perspectives.Management, financing and participation seem to be the major contemporary challenges of municipal governance. However, they have been examined and discussed in isolation, which implies that the proposed solutions for each dimension are often in conflict. This table aims to provide an opportunity to discuss more broadly different dimensions. What are the main barriers to financing of public policies in the municipality? What are the major contemporary challenges of municipal management? What are the advances and challenges for strengthening participation at the municipal level?
