CEM provides updated edition of Census Tracts

Developed by CEM Technology Transfer team, the latest edition of the Census Tracts from the 2010 Census for the metropolitan areas of Brazil offers a new horizon for socio-spatial researches. Associated with a Geographic Information System, these data and cartographic files provide access to an integrated information set, which allows areas of high poverty concentration or insufficiently attended by public policies to be identified. This is, therefore, a fundamental tool for society and the public power to learn and act in such areas. CEM researchers digitalized the 2010 Census Tracts for 23  metropolitan regions in Brazil, correcting border inconsistencies and adapting them to the Center’s Geographic Information System.

The cartographic files contain the identification data, that is to say: geocodes, territorial units, situation, etc., and are accompanied by the datasheet from the 2010 IBGE Census (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). For this purpose, 499 variables were selected and created from the survey’s “universe”, a research which is applied to every single household in the country, thus making it easier for researchers to use this data.

This data set is available on CEM website in the Database area.
